“Pope Benedict, or ‘B-Unit’, as he’s known to absolutely nobody, stated that he is ‘fully aware’ of the gravity of his decision. Well that really brings it home, Andy, because I don’t think the Catholic Church fully acknowledged gravity as a concept until relatively recently. I could be wrong, but even if I am, I’m still less wrong than is ideal.” — John Oliver  (The Bugle Podcast, episode...

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the...

They say the human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hands of men. I agree and find myself longing for such a place, a place of quiet and natural chaos, where i can belong and yet peacefully know and accept that we’re not much at all. Life at its core is for me extremely interior, no single word gives it meaning. My grandfather whom I cherished would call me...

Catching up
I’ve just finished Dead Souls by Gogol and have begun reading short stories by Marcel Aymé. I find myself wishing I had read them sooner. How it took me so long to finally open some of these books is simply ridiculous. I’ve decided to put up a list of authors I’m planning to get intimate with sooner rather than later. No more pondering what to tackle next, it’ ll all be here: - George...

The conflict in DRC Congo has now been going on for 15 years. The direct result of this is approximately 8 million people killed at a pace of about 1500 dead per day. If we minimise to 10% the percentage of children in this total death count, that still makes 150 children’s lives taken EACH AND EVERY DAY. Is anybody interested about this?
